About

Intro

My name is Hannah Van Hoof, I am a passionate and driven person who loves all things mathematics and learning.

In this love for math I have also found a love for looking through and analyzing data. I use data in all sorts of forms to make my everyday and critical decisions.

Having worked in retail and currently as a teacher I know how to talk to people, deal with conflict, and lead a group of people to a common goal.

Background

I have a BA in Mathematics from Western Washington University.

I then went through a teacher preparedness course to get my Secondary Education in Mathematics certificate through Western Governors University.

A month into my teaching program I started working at South Kitsap High school as a full time mathematics teacher.

Throughout my 8 years I have gotten the chance to teach a variety of different mathematics levels, Geometry through AP Calculus BC.

I have loved teaching and it has allowed me to dive into math in a way that I never had before. Learning how and why processes in mathematics work has taken research, critical thinking, and adapting what I have tried in the past.

Teaching has improved my ability to adapt to whatever is given to me and make the most out of any situation. This can be shown through many scenarios that I have navigated, like having to deal with behaviors through my classroom management and having to help students handle the unpredictable nature that is public school.

But none more than the last year where I taught AP Calculus AB and AP Calculus BC as a combined class, meaning I taught both classes during the same class period.

During my time at the high school I have been the advisor for multiple ASB classes, the assistant marching band director, and a teacher leader in the mathematics department.

Experience

I have used the data analysis process everyday throughout my last 8 years as an AP calculus teacher in each class I have taught.

Even though I didn’t have formal training at the time, I was able to still understand the information I was looking at due to my background in mathematics.

  • In my latest year of teaching, I completed the Google Data Analytics course.

Due to this course, I obtained the knowledge to take the data I already collect and enhance how I analyze it to make changes in my life and career.

One of my biggest strengths is that I am passionate and dedicated to learning. I strive everyday to continue to learn and improve in every aspect.
